Christopher Kane Resort 2011

In a season where a designer can choose to play it safe and marketable, Christopher Kane will always push it forward while still remaining wearable and modern. For Resort 2011 cosmic space prints were the show's main focus, presented on t-shirts, dresses, and smooth leather jackets. Billowy chiffon, lightly printed, yolked out of the collar or waistline, giving the look a solar acidic element. Each look was complimented by a superb pair of sandals topped with a fuzzy faux- fur embellishments in light blue, dark red, pink or black. The funny sandals gave the show an outlook of hilarity that is always apparent in this creative young Londoner's collections. No matter the season nor the inspiration, one can always manage to be amazed, as well as confused, over his clothing and vision. Which is why it remains pristinely beautiful and whimsically light, on the runway and in store, every time around.

Hesitation. That feeling when we buy something we really like, expensive or not, and hesitate over where to wear it. We do this maybe to save the piece for a different occasion, or to keep it looking new. I used to be this way, but now I kindof don't realize the point. What if all of our 'special' pieces, the ones we save for pristine occasions, were used in our everyday ensembles? What if someone just took out their, say, Alexander Wang blazer or Manolo Blahnik sandals for a spin around town? What if we wore our favorite once-in-a-while clothes everyday. I guess we can, save the innapropriate Carrie Bradshaw cocktail dress in a park, but if you want, go ahead. It'd be pretty damn fabulous.

We all have that bag we carry everywhere, it may be vintage or from Barney's, but either way we love it to death. It carries the perfect amount and compliments any outfit you choose, this is mine.

I bought this bag last summer at Gamma Player and have been throwing it over my shoulder ever since, whether to run around town or to go to dinner. I love it because it reminds me of the PS1 bag, but is allot smaller and less of a hassle. Every person should have a piece like this in their closet, something high quality, that they love, and will last wear after wear.

'Make me wanna die' by the Pretty Reckless.

Lead singer is 17 year-old actress Taylor Momsen, whose recent provocative behavior has caused major contoversy, and through her bad girl image and feisty interviews one could only guess that's exactly what she wanted.

The girl swears more then Mel Gibson and her look resembles Courtney Love twenty years ago, but either way, I kindof dig it. Even with a mouth like that, she was recently named the face of John Galliano's new perfume. Guess her style is too good to pass up.

Christian Louboutin Men's Fall 2010

Seeing as though I was unaware that Louboutin had an actual men's line, I was rather shocked when I came across their selection for the upcoming Fall season. With a 'parisian circus' theme standing as influence, the design and decorative elements of these men's shoes seem much more progressive then usual...

Christian Louboutin isn't exactly my thing, a little too flashy and tacky, especially after the croud of billionaire rappers and their ex-wives started to frequent the brand. But, nevertheless, these shoes proved to be very cool. I'm rather loving the first lace-up pair on the left with the red and triangular black and white suede, as well as the striped and studded loafers next to them. I'm a gym shoe whore, so a a pair of swarovski studded spiked ones would just be an investment, yeah?

Well, with prices ranging anywhere from $800- $2000, it looks like the only way i will ever be able to purchase them is on final 90% markdown at the Barney's sale next year.

In an extremely private Paris showing, Riccardo Tisci, head designer to the house Givenchy, showed one of the most exsquisite couture collections of the past decade. Taking inspiration from Frida Kahlo, her obsessions with death and religion, he sculpted looks modeled after the human skeleton. With each piece heavily embroidered, some of which took thousands of hours to create, his eye was purely focused on the detailed aspect of haute couture. Although, even in the heaviest of embroidery, there still seemed to be a lightness to each garment, showing the incredible craftsmanship which still thrives within the house of Givenchy.

Proenza Schouler's new Resort line is so beautiful and perfect. The cool tones, always snuggly layering and not to mention INSANELY amazing bags made fashion hungry kids all over the world's mouth water. Inspired by a trip to India, Jack and Lazaro doubled minimalist construction with busy ikat prints to make an incredibly downtown ensemble work for anyone.

I'm obsessed with the green PS1 bag and the zippy vest on the fifth girl. Once I get some money, watch out.

Stunning models stood nonchalent on laced-up sandals that could be worn Fall or Spring with socks or tights anywhere (or everywhere) one goes. I love these guys and their youthful aesthetic, they bring excitement back to fashion in even the most simple shows and garments.

All of the chill blues and whites would look perfect with my new teal streak, more on that later...

As usual, me and the crew worked the Gay Pride Parade, but this year we were IN IT. Us and 50 other kids dancing hysterically down Belmont with flags and rainbow scarves was quite a scene. Oh, yeah, it was for our school too.

Me, Rebecca, Talia, and Maddie.

I almost decided on wearing something nicer from Marc but decided that it was HOT and way too crowded to do so. I went with my American Apparel mini-shorts, a tie-dye t-shirt I made, American Apparel metallic headband and many tacky accessories.

Good thing, because I came home covered in glitter!

It was all worth the two mile walk and overbearing heat because being in the Parade was an incredible experience that I will never forget. Even if there will be MANY more prides to come...

Overall, The whole shabang really came down to the fact that you're perfect, no matter what sexuality.

Yesterday was the infamous Gay Pride Parade (full post on that spectacle later) which this year turned 40 years old!

The Parade was its usual spectacle of techno music, glitter, and nakedness among the insane outfits, makeup, shoes, and jewelry all of which were out of this world and beautiful. Unusually, one thing I took in mind most of all happened when we were trying to hail a cab 6 hours of dancing and parading later.

We were on the curb when a man and a women walked by us, Talia pointed out that they had traded clothes. As you could imagine, this wasn't very surprising at Pride, but when i looked I was pleasantly surprised. They looked... really cool.

The women rocked brown sweat shorts and a drapey t-shirt paired with sandals and fedora. The man, however, rocked a shredded denim mini skirt that appropriately hit right above his knee. He paired this with a plain black T-shirt and sandals. It was so chic I couldn't believe it.

Men in skirts (kilts) is a trend that has been going on for a while on the Parisian runways, but when its taken to the street in such a way, it looks divine.

Currently on the hunt for the perfect shredded denim skirt.

I really think Menswear is becoming much more progressive and interesting then it was, say, a couple years ago when the the most unique men's piece one could find was an A-line blazer. Now, designers really have a feel for what's new, taking their men's collections to much higher places where the design is pure and the vision is fresh.

Raf Simons showed his Spring 2011 Men's collection for minimalist brand Jil Sander to much hype. The collection was a kaleidoscope of neon colors. Simple silhouettes were beautifully constructed and made interesting with a rave palette or an embroidered flower print. Sweet models walked on laced boot oxfords in a plum/blue color that mixed pleasantly with every aspect of the collection. The cleansing palette was like a sorbet, a lovely detox from the conservative suits seen around Milan Fashion Week.

I'm in love with the layering and the way the long blazers hit the superb mini shorts. It's beautiful how the movement creates a color blocking of the body. A dark coat on top, with hints of neon blue and melon popping out to compliment. Such style.

The whole collections was a zap of neon burst, Warholian pop art mixed with electric comic strips from the 80's and a smooth summer vibe. You could imagine this guy at any cool party or chic happening, later pairing his pink blazer with all black for dinner with co-workers. Raf Simons is a genius with impeccable style and taste that wants to dress his men as fabulously as the Jil Sander women around them.

Alber Elbaz showed his Resort 2011 show this week for Lanvin to a small audience of buyers and friends. It is through the resort show that many fashion houses earn their steady income, because they use this 'in-between' season to make clothes that are simply 'appealing' without the wide concepts or excessive inspirations.

Lanvin showed their true classics and much more with twirly dresses, loose trenches, and much ease. Models stood on stilt-like wedges that were quite beautiful and complimentary to the sometimes over baring drapery. Although this wasn't a revolutionary collection it was a progressive and obviously beautiful extension of the iconic Lanvin wardrobe, modernized with lovely embroidery and clever styling that will leave customers floored at the two-in-one pieces (and everything else for that matter).

By far, the most clever aspect happened midway through the show, when two models appeared wearing black dresses. They then proceeded to remove them, turning the dresses inside out and then putting them on. The dresses transformed from simple black to ruffly cocktail numbers. Brillaint.

Alber Elbaz, although not the master of conceptual fashion, is the pure master of desire. And that is what makes women , and men, fall to their knees for his clothes and divine accessories.

Impeccable clothing for early spring, anybody? Stella McCartney, daughter of the famous Beatle, shelled out minimalism for her resort show to beautiful results. Country prints, lacey accents, and blooming cuts showed Stella's wonderful eye for construction and balance. She proved a beautiful ensemble doesn't take much more than your perfect white pants, camel coat, and garden shoes.

I can smell the roses.

I graduated from 8th grade Saturday afternoon in a fabulous ceremony with my stunning class of 21 people. Although it was a bitter sweet occasion, everyone was rather happy and glowing, including these two ^. I was a little sleep-deprived...

I wore my tie-dye Spring 2010 Proenza Schouler top above my mesh American Apparel collared blouse. I paired these with my classic black Jil Sander pants and strappy sandals I found on sale. You could really tell everyone's personality by their shoes.

Rebecca Looked absolutely beautiful in her purple and black lace Betsey Johnson number.

I wanted some rather trashy nails to go with my 'ensemble', and i think I achieved that goal...

The next day I celebrated with my incredible family and friends at a lovely brunch. What a weekend.

I don't know how I feel about M.I.A. and her politically charged music, but her latest music video 'Born Free' was rather shocking, disturbing, and gruesome. The video includes the horrible references to genocide, terrorism, and third-world countries that always appear in her tribal techno singles. This video though was rather twisted; some say brilliant, some say grotesque, some just say stupid.

Many people have called M.I.A. a hypocrite recently for reasons that I am unaware of. I heard from a friend that many don't listen to her third-world justice nonsense anymore, mainly because of her ironic status as wife to be to a multi-millionaire. who knows.

I'm all for political messaging in music, art, or fashion. Many collections by Comme des Garcons, Junya Watanabe ect. are infused with political undercurrents, and that is what makes them so brilliant. The video shown below I kind of loved just because it was so controversial and thorough, but while watching it I couldn't held but flinch and shrug. Is this an accurate interpretation of political propoganda today, or an over-privelaged electro artist standing out in an attempt to seem representative of her Sri-Lanka background?

When waving at strangers becomes boring

On Monday Me and Rebecca went to dinner, to celebrate her birthday, which was lovely. I wore my Nice Collective vest-shirt and my Hue white skinnys. I packed all my crap into my Forever 21 satchel i scored for $12, don't tell anybody. Rebecca looked lovely as always.

We went for declicious frozen yogurt afterwards; Granola, chocolate chips, and banana, so yummy.

Thursday night we went out for sushi to celebrate my dahling Maddie's birthday (too many May birthdays)

After dinner we had a little bit too much fun on Maddie's swing...

Saturday night Me, Rebecca, and Talia went out for quick Japanese and then to see Sex and the City 2, my guilty pleasure. Of course, we got way into it, like always.

How tacky we are to dress up like Sex and the City characters; I pulled on my best drag to halfway impersonate mah gurl Carrie Bradshaw. I wore my mom's Jean Paul Gaultier geometric dress, a flowy Zara shawl, strappy vintage sandals, and a metallic silver American Apparel headband. Talia dressed perfectly as Samantha for the occasion and Rebecca did her duty as Charlotte, they both looked stunning and we caused much staring that night. Most likely because we're weird and we laugh so loud it echoes. so proud of us. We would have taken outfit pictures if we weren't frantically running through the city pushing over bachelorette bitches of all kinds to get our seats.

As i haven't posted in a rather long time, I though a change of scenery would be nice and refreshing for spring; something more open, clean, and bright perhaps. More posts are on there way, I just have so much i want to discuss I don't even know where to begin. But i guess this is a nice place to begin, with my new layout. welcome.

Chanel is really hard to define, it is extremely tacky, there is no doubt about it, but it really can afford to be. Standing as a multi-billion dollar label, Karl, as head designer, can take as many risks and spend as much money as he likes. But that is exactly what is so gross about it. Chanel threw a Fall 2010 fashion show in Paris with a set constructed out of a massive iceberg flown in from sweden set in a pool of water, that was so horrifying i didn't really want to put it up here. But, is the decadence what makes it intriguing and different? yes, completely. Do sets of icebergs, barns, and carriages as well as exsquisite styling make people want to buy? of course. that is why Chanel is so genius fashion and business wise.

Anyhoo, Chanel showed the first Resort 2011 collection of the season in St. Tropez to a clustered audience seated in french cafe setting. The show began as windswept models and and tan male escorts strode off of the Chanel yacht, walking the runway barefoot(shoes in hand), and nonchalently sweeping their hair through their fingertips. The clothes were quite beautiful in the beginning with light sundresses, and relaxed jewelry, but then protruded into ugly pastels that were more 90's Miami than St. Tropez circa now. The ending pieces of the show were stunning and less cluttered then most Chanel looks, making them cool and more young. Classic tweed jackets hung over slinky smimsuits, and shear dresses worked with paillettes and gladiator sandals, each model with their own long necklace dangling at the chest. Chanel proved a much more relaxed, yet not messy image for their Resort collection that seemed easy and very beautiful. I would love to see this side more often.

The fashion show was rather decent, but the collection was complimented with a short film, made my Lagerfeld, shown the night before that was quite ridiculous. The film consisted of barely any dialogue, it profiles a rich man whom attends a party with a bunch of other rich St. Tropez socialites and anorexic models only to hook up with one of them after talking to her for like 3 seconds. The models then dance crazily on top of the Dj booth for like 8 minutes wearing all Chanel as the older man then leaves walking through the street with the other woman. Then there's more dancing by some woman. another party. they go back to their villa to change for another party but it's like 6 am and the sun's up. woah, dilemma. So then they arrive at "Pamela's party", entering into her villa (for a breakfast of nicotine and champagne) to find 19 year old models crashed on their couch smoking. more dancing. no eating. Karl Lagerfeld comes in and says something. the dumb model says something back. more smoking. the end. Watch it if you want below in two parts, it's incredibly decadent and actually quite hilarious. Have fun and enjoy yourself, that is indeed the message to this collection. It's level of austere tackiness and beautiful hilaritiy is what makes it so right, and utterly genius. I loved it all.

I will be in New Mexico on a retreat for a week, so until then, please enjoy.

I enjoy menswear, obviously I must dress myself, but womenswear has always been my forte. There has always just been something about it ; the constant excitement, the spectacle, the poeple and models, and above all the constantly modern clothing that has always been so exciting. Menswear, though, doesn't seem to share this same appeal. Obviously it is for men, so it's toned down and less frilly, but why did it always remain so dull and boring. I mean, I understand it's a gorgeous suit but who needs to see a runway show of fifty suits? where has all the drama gone? the interesting details? the modern designs? Well, this season, they appeared. Many menswear designers have pumped it up this season with top notch collections that, to my extreme excitement, referenced womenswear in many ways. Men in skirts, a-line draped army jackets, harem pants, and even heeled wedges worked and stomped the runways to the new extreme. Men's fashion is back, and has never seemed so refreshingly modern and undeniably cool. My favorite menswear collections were as follows, adding that extra something to keep it fresh and incredibly new.

Lanvin

I almost cried when i first saw this collection, sad i know, but when such a brand as Lanvin, with their PERFECT craftsmanship and amazing image, takes it even a step forward, it can never disappoint. Military severity and easy cool came together to create this stunning show that gave way to some of the most gorgeous men's pieces I have seen recently. Flowy trenches, and over-sized sweaters were an incredible highlight, especially when paired with the lovely army pants and accessories (headbands? yes, please). This is one of the first men's collections by Lanvin that i could say rivaled the women's. Bravo.

Raf Simons

Raf Simons, head designer to both Jil Sander and his own namesake label, showed a beautiful menswear collection that took both beautifully crafted men's essentials and slight womens cuts.

Starting the show off with beautifully classic, yet not boring, suits soon progressed into gorgeous jacket and sweaters made from the most pristine fabrics. Suits and trenches were made modern with cinched waists and tighter fit, while long sweaters were paired with gorgeous 'skirts' and skinny black pants. Overall, the collection was an exciting blend of classic and modern that won't be leaving men puzzled in front of the Raf Simons rack at Barney's, but wearing their clothes with a new confidence and ease. Or in this case, strictness.

Ann Demeulemeester

Ann always has that fabulous gothic quality in her menswear collection that is neither cliche nor too vampire inspired (but vampire in a good way). Her mix is a perfect blend of layered chic; complimented with tons of textured black, leather collared jackets and over-sized white shirts. Flippy long-haired models glided out with chained belts dangling with their leather biker boots and ostrich gloves. To use the tackiest word in fashion, this collection was, indeed, 'Fierce.' a finale of feather embellished collars was extreme and of course beautiful, sealing the collection into a perfect black, goth, vampire, present for next fall. Wear with caution in the full moon.

Best Accessory of the season- Rick Owens heeled wedge boots

The men's Rick Owens show was rather repetitive and weird but, the shoes, oh my god...I have mentioned these glorious boots several times before, but I just can't get over how delighted I was when I first saw them! Wedges for men? genius. In lizard skin? beyond.

In Cathy Horyn's latest blog post she talks about her experiences in the New York Fifth Avenue stores in comparison with today's economy. Feeling the 'temperature' as she would say. The other day I wanted to try my own version. Being the shopaholic I am, I took a Friday stroll through the 'elite' (snobbed out) stores of Chicago's gold coast. Here's what I found.

I started my shopping trip with a manicure, I chose a silver color inspired by Chanel's most recent Haute Couture show. I thought, then, that I should start at the Chanel store on Michigan Avenue. Walking into the then deserted Chanel store was intimidating, sales people and bodyguard-like doormen stared but greeted me friendly, I strolled though the monochromatic space akwardly yet nochalant. I spotted the new 'Nouvelle Vague' polish, a creamy turquoise that would have already sold out elsewhere. I considered buying it at first, but it was a tad too tacky for me. I proceeded to look through some of the spring merchandise, their selection was rather disappointing but a few stunning jackets and delicate blouses made up for it. On my way out of that weird shoe department, a salewomen commented on my Nice Collective shirt saying it was "odd" which I took as a compliment. I then left headed towards Barney's.

Stepping into the airy, equally deserted space at Barney's I immediately headed up to the second floor women's shoe department to scout out some new Spring merchandise. I entered, surprised and delighted to see the floor fully stocked and rather busy. I scouted out some beautiful shoes; those satin Miu Miu wedges, Givenchy studded flats, and the Proenza surfer wedge were just few the great finds. As i walked around, their nice salepeople wrapped up some rather large sales and women left with several bags each. As i looked in horror at the gaudy Christian Louboutin stilettos, the calm at Barney's was roared over by a group of valley girls on a shopping spree. One tried on a horrendous 7-inch Louboutin wedge that was studded over with glittter and patent that had to easily cost +$1500. The rest of them screamed out 'how fierce they were' and pleaded her to buy them. I eavesdropped for several minutes, laughed loudly at them, and then left for Ikram. I picked up a beautiful pair of neon socks at Ikram ala Comme des Garcons, recieving great sales help from the oddly nice (usually cold) salepeople. My trip being wrapped up nicely from the mecca of all stores.

My current inability to post is due to my long spring trip to Texas with my friend Rebecca. We've been all over Houston and took a long road trip through the dry Landscapes to Port Aransas, an island along the Gulf of Mexico. The scenery, water, trees and flushed landscape of the island was a far stretch from city life, and felt incredibly refreshing. Out of Houston's rather tropical landscape, we drove through the flat lands where odd palms mixed beautifully with grassy lands abundant with windflowers and filled with abandoned homes or old cars. The dreamy land was so innocent yet haunting, reminding me much of the Rodarte fall collection. It was incredibly inspiring, pictures from the trip as well as inspiration boards will be up when I come home shortly. For now, let's breathe in the Texas air for what It's worth.

It was just recently I was invited to our dear friend's shop, Gamma Player, for a spring collection viewing. Gamma Player is an avante-garde clothing store in Wicker Park that was started by Yoko Uozumi and her renowned DJ husband Jeff Mills. The store specialized in carrying brands exclusively in the U.S. out of Europe and Japan, like Henrik Vibskov and Hussein Chalayan. Gamma Player is the best in Chicago for specialty avante-garde garments. The interior itself is a chic, minimal, dark space, brought to life by the beautiful clothing and soothing house tracks by Mills. Jeff and Yoko are both so sweet and share incredible style and class. They generously asked me to write a newsletter for them linking their merchandise to the current Spring trends. That fun project is on the way.

The special viewing showed beautiful men's and women's collections that could no doubt be worn by either sex. Every piece was unique and out of the ordinary for this Spring. Organic fibers, digital prints, and minimalism were beautiful trends I could spot out of this progressive space. I met some really fabulous people and the viewing was very lovely, Congratulation to Jeff and Yoko!

Just as we get excited about Spring, bright colors and warmth, It's time to look to the future, as is usual in fashion. The Fall 2010 season was packed full of beautiful collections, to no doubt be seen on the beautiful fashion crowd as well as on the city streets. These five were my favorite of the season.

1) Rodarte

Kate and Laura's Rodarte collection was ghastly and magical, girls glided out in Mexican adornment like ghosts through the Sierra. Editors left the show silent, mesmerized. Bringing glassy attendees to tears.

2) Celine

Phoebe Philo, designer for Celine, has an aesthetic that seems to be everywhere. Minimalist, beautiful, clean clothing has never seemed so fresh and utterly cool.

3) Rick Owens

'Cult of nuns' said Rick Owens about his new collection. Mixing the severity of Christian robes, tribal aspects, and his neo-gothic beauty made for a stunning result. Never have nuns looked so fierce.

4) Mary Katrantzou

Mary Katrantzou, a progressive London designer, has hit it out with her technological prints season after season. This time around, her futuristic signature was brought back to the victorian era with applique lace and ruffly layers. Her witty mix seemed so odd it came off new and completely beautiful. Lovely.

5) Givenchy

Riccardo Tisci is one of the most religious of designers, translating his Catholic beliefs into his beautiful yet dark design aesthetic. Tisci's collection for Fall 2010 was a mark of territory, strong and severe, with asymmetrical silhouettes and blood colors. His tense clothing makes women feel powerful, giving Givenchy top ranks on the runway and in retail stores every season. I couldn't help but add an extra picture. Bravo.

Now for my three least favorite.

1) Blumarine

Italian label Blumarine is so unbelievably horrifying I can't even believe I'm mentioning it on my blog. The company's image, from their badly styled ad campaigns to endangered lizard boots are beyond tacky. Their Fall show was no exception.

2) Balmain

Balmain is a fashion label that relies solely on It's young wealthy clientele to support their offensive + $20,000 price points. The rocker 80's vibe was cool four seasons ago, but today, when the words are 'clean' and 'minimal', tacky party dresses just don't do it. I mean really? purple and gold? no thanks.

3) Emanuel Ungaro

Ungaro was just ugly.

Recently, I was generously invited to The Re-make 2010 Chicago fashion show to take notes and pictures for this here blog. The Re- Make show held the collections of ten Chicago-based designers who all constructed their looks out of recycled materials. The clothing was very nice, but the group of the people I encountered were less then friendly. Taking the chance at this 'fashion show' to seem more important than others, and not grasp the fun aspect of this unique concept. The so-called afterparty gave off snobby attitude as well. I, however, ignored them and focused on what I was there for. The designers I think overall did a good job on constructing looks out of these given materials, although some were a little lackluster. Most of the garments were oddly fitted and plainly styled, leaving the overall look more dry then inspiring. I think when working with such a great theme, and array of materials, It's important to bring drama to your look in some way. Especially when working 'green', the environment is such an active theme all around our cities that these clothes should inspire. My favorite looks and designers did somehow incorporate dramatic elements inspired by recycled materials into their looks. Some of the best included.

1) Yungchen Palden,

a nine year older fashion designer who modeled her own look constructed out of second hand dresses, ponchos and sweaters. I met her at the after- party and she was a delight.

2) Team, Amalia Buisson and Sarah Marguier.

whom both came to Chicago from Europe. One studying at SAIC and the other designing costumes and puppets at Redmoon Theatre. There collection was my favorite and the most dramatic. Their looks were inspired by the shapes and colors found in everyday waste, the garments were made out interesting elements like organic waste, branches, tea bags, and plastic. Their overall effect was very avante-garde which is an aesthetic I respond to very well.

3) Ally Greaves,

a talented costume designer, designed a collection from thrift store finds . Her looks were very nice, wearable while still seeming innovative. My favorite looks included lacey doily dresses and skirt constucted out of vintage ties. All of her models strutted out with mellow head pieces and teetering shoes, her collection gave me a bit of vintage McQueen which I liked allot. Good Job.

Other great pieces included a poufy skirt embroidered with paisly pattern, quite beautiful. A mellow white evening number, styled with chains and white fur, totally Gucci. As well as a brown jumper embroidered with thrifted doilies, which was very whimsicle. Overall the show was fun and witty, the concept I loved, and the clothes were nice, beauty and music making up for lack of styling and fit from some designers. But sour attitudes made the show stuffy and the after party even more so, snobby bartender refused drink orders and most people involved with the show appeared when I left an hour later. The evening was overall a fun celebration of fashion, and the nice people and clothes I did see made up for the rest. Although I do still wish I took pictures from the "After Party". I hope they continue this tradition in the future, because I will always gladly support anything that remains eco- friendly and fabulous at the same time.

On a shopping trip with ma' gurl Courtney we made sure to make a stop into Prada to take a look at the new Spring collection. The clothes, of course, were fabulous, but what we didn't expect to walk out with was a beautiful, rather large, look book from the new mens and womens lines. Inside this delight were wonderfully shot, and artistically styled, spreads of Miuccia's best spring looks. The inspirations for this collection were chandeliers, finding a steady balance between the soft iridescence and the hardness of a crystal. This came out artistically through the beautiful imagery. The graphics being a wonderful highlight, that my intellectual brother no-doubt obsessed over. Take a look for yourself at some of the best pages from the Prada book.

Damn, this movie looks hot. The Runaways, starring Dakota Fanning and Kristen Stewart, is a film about two chicks, out to start a badass rock band. One made up of all girls, of course. Dakota and Kristen may play the parts to key, but not only does the acting looks amazing, the styling, vibe, and music are all incredibly fitting as well. The 80's energy reminds me of the club kids from Marc Jacobs' Fall 08/09 collection.

These girls are ganna rock it with some major sex appeal. Can't wait for this one.

It makes me so sad and angry to talk about the closing of a wildly talented friend's business, due to a shitty economy. Maria Pinto, a Chicago based fashion designer, is an amazingly talented woman who brings flavor to everything she does. Since starting her business, post studying at SAIC, she has dressed and styled some of the most powerful and confident women today. Michelle Obama and Oprah are huge fans of Maria's work. Maria's business was thriving before the drop in today's economy, opening a stunning retail space below her offices in the West Loop which she was forced to close. This past month seems to be the dead end for many fashion corners of Chicago. Before Maria, both Yves Saint Laurent and Ultimo boutique closed their doors on their exclusive Oak Street spaces.

Maria has always been so nice and generous to me and has invited me to her studio many times, of which I am so thankful. She is absolutely warm and welcoming to everyone she knows. It makes me so sad that even accomplished designers such as Maria are closing their doors due to this situation. I wish that I had visited her showroom more and had taken a greater advantage of all her designs before this, but I had always thought her clothes would be around forever. Although this situation is sad and unfortunate, I am absolutely sure Maria will one day open her doors again to the fashion world.

I'm having a major shoes obsession recently with a pair of studded lace-ups by Tao for Comme des Garcons. Tao is a small avante-garde label that is managed under the Comme des Garcons company. Tao produces work similiar to that of Comme with a bit of a more youthful twist.

I saw these shoes while browsing Colette.com, and I became in love with them and their relaxed boy attitude. Perfect for the summer.

Comme des garcons hits It out season after season. This discreet Japanese label, run by conceptual fashion guru Rei kawakubo, carries the pack and has been called the 'secret leader' of the fashion world.

For Fall, Rei did a collection based on what she described as 'inner decoration', the only explanation she gave for her show. The clothing, with this concept, can be interpreted so many ways. With it, Kawakubo brought new jackets, vintage plaids, and stunning white dresses that were all crunched together by bursting bumps and bulges. The oddly stuffed layers resembled a '90's Comme collection 'lumps and bumps', Where strange lumps symbolized the weight of one's personal belonging. But I doubt Rei would pull the same thing twice, unless that was exactly the point. This time around though, shoes were torn apart and finale dresses had snowy layers of white foam popping out of creases. This might have been to give a feeling of dishevelment, or claim perverted feminine territory. It is, as always, up to us to decide. That is what makes Comme des Garcons so undeniably weird, yet masterfully beautiful.

Sorry about lack of posts, it is fashion 'week' (more like month) after all, and I get too distracted from my homework by online fashion shows and cookies. I did, however, want to start reviewing shows with one of my favorites in Milan, Prada Fall 2010. Miuccia Prada, head designer of the label, said she was revisiting and re-modernizing what made her famous in the 90's. But this collection seemed more an exploration of what's real to her customer, their womanhood. Voluptuous models mixed with other zomby teen models to give the show a little extra oomph. The thread of womanhood really came through the clothes by the bust. There was no way to ignore it. Ruffles primped the bustline and tight ribbing lifted like a built in bra. Fabrics were a flavorful variety between the glazed alpaca, leather, ruffles and odd embroidery, the collection practically spoke pure 90's Prada. Heavier models strutted their stuff and made it work, while the grasping bust effect of the clothing made skinny teens look more womanly and mature. Which was exactly the point. Miuccia always brings something new to the fashion world, and this season was no exception. These pieces will take part in countless editorials, as well as fly off shelves in Prada stores. All for one reason, real women rule.

Speechless. What an amazing show, one that could be called a grand work of fashion art. Kate and Laura Mulleavy of Rodarte sent forth an amazing collection for Fall 2010 that was, as usual, inspired by their travels. During the sister's road trip to the Texas border, they took in the vast dreamy landscapes and observed odd factory workers in the middle of the night. This led to their inspirational concept, creating a collection around sleepwalking. The clothing was based around the idea of the 'in-between,' where does a dream end and reality set in? This question pondered the audience as crew members dazzled the runway with white confetti and began to light a wax 'shrine' of melted candles. It was time. The models came out adorned in mexican rafia work, white and cream jackets embellished with goathair, and dresses draped with sweet floral prints. Pieces were treated with textured fabrics, and tights and socks were woven with traditional mexican adornment. Models floated down the pavement in sky-high shoes with heels cleverly molded after dripping candles. A finale of pure white textured gowns resembles the wedding dresses of brides long forgotten. Finally, the lights went down and models did their final run through as the fashion world cheered. Their white garments glowing in the dark with their ghostly shoes. Guests left enlightened, realizing, as convincingly sweet as the whole thing was, there was an air of disturbance to it. Were the dreamy silhouettes that walked this show the forgotten angels of a mexican propaganda? who knows. The real question remains what will this dynamic duo do next? only time will tell, but the future looks promising.

This is a show worth watching start to finish. Sit, think, and take in the essence of this pure moment in fashion. What does this show say to you?

This collection was a look back at Marc personally and professionally over his entire career. The clothes, however, did not come down the runway in a 'greatest hits' parade. The show began as a spotlight showed both Marc Jacobs and Robert Duffy tearing construction paper off of a wooden 'cage', revealing Marc's lineup of smart girls. An instrumental version of 'Somewhere over the Rainbow' began to play as Marc's first girl made her way down the runway in a simple pale blue sweater and skirt, socks tucked into her heeled slingbacks. The show progressed from simple looks, reminiscing the nineties, to full on coats of fur over light tulle skirts. A finale of satin and velvet embroidered gowns kept the fashion world at a hush of beauty as they caught the hit of nostalgic serenity slowly fading through Marc's Fall 2010 collection. The show seemed, as always, a personal inflection of Marc Jacobs right now, and what he's feeling. Longing for home in the Marc Jacobs archives, perhaps? Who knows, but through Marc's designs, It slowly became clear why the industry has survived this economic downfall. Not because of our further progressing technology, but because of the pure emotional love we grow to have with fashion.

Fashion week just started, and posts on Fall 2010 fashion are on their way. But for now, let's think about Spring 2010, which was an incredible season full of beautiful and fun clothes that could easily become staples in one's closet. There are pieces that make me want to start crying to the salesperson over them, but no matter what, I can't afford until they are probably marked down five times and thrown into some past-season dungeon. R.I.P. Alexander McQueen (1969-2010). We will miss you so much.

Alexander Mcqueen, 1969-2010, was an amazing designer, one of the best to ever come around. He undoubtedly tempted the retrospective of desire, wonder, life, and fashion through his entire career. All my life i have loved fashion so, so much, living and breathing it in. Since the beginning I looked in amazement at the work of Alexander McQueen. I wondered and dreamt and sat in awe over it, looking at it a million times and watching the runway videos over and over again. It is so hard to explain the disappointment, the emotional connection with fashion one grows to have. But no matter what anyone can type or say about this misfortune, it is near impossible to explain the loss the fashion world has gone through, and the pure joy he had brought to us all through his extraordinary fashion. Alexander McQueen was purely amazing, and will always be remembered in our hearts, and in my distinct memories of why I love fashion so much. It will never again be the same without him, but It is up to us to continue his realm of daring dreams, and design, doing fashion for what you love and what makes you happy. Always know the pure genius that was put into any piece of his that you own, and work it for all that It's worth. His spirit will shine through with your step and in your sparkle.

You will always be remembered and loved, Rest in Peace Alexander McQueen. And thank you so, so much.

These are some cool new ads for Alexander Wang's Spring collections. The top ad from his main line and bottom from his line of T-shirts, meant to be posted all over New York and L.A. like underground posters. There is no doubt that Alex is so cool and youthful, fresh full of ideas. I actually got to meet him one day at a Barney's trunk show. He stood there poised, glaring at me as i hyperventilated and grasped onto my Alexander wang skinnys. Meeting a designer is like meeting a rock star to me. Anyway, the spring collection is very sporty and urban as usual. Inspired by his days at boarding school and varsity football. Which is a very interesting turn. Ad campaigns are very nice and the clothes are a refreshing stretch from the usual smokey nightclub dresses.

These are some of my favorite looks from Alexander's Spring 2010 runway. I love the corset sweatshirts and olive coats. The sexy white jersey dresses were inspired by the cut of men's underwear and some clutches even resembled deflated footballs (Cheesy, but cute.)

I love, and want to steal, the sweatshirt jacket with the applique "A" and zipper. I would wear it everywhere and look like a i had a jacket personalized with my initial. Wow, pretty classy, i know.

This collections, as always, is very street and wearable. The clothes within the show guaranteed to be seen on cool girls downtown or on some no-doubt diva at a concert or club. Sporty, cool, totally sexy, take some Alex Wang confidence with you this weekend wherever you go.

Mens fashion week just wrapped up in Paris, and to my excitement, feminine elements were a strong trend through the Fall 2010 men's season. Whether it be heeled boots or a belted waist, this was a lovely turn to freshen up the usual mens shapes and patterns. A full post on these exciting apects of Men's fashion week is yet to come.

At the Rick Owens mens Fall 2010 show the usual dark grunge image was apparent, seen in the beautiful footwear especially. This season Rick Owens did a heeled wedge boot for the men in his collection, made from snakeskin, leather, and crocodile. Meant for the most daring and fashion forward guys to wear down the streets of Tokyo or Paris with a matching pant and serious attitude.

Wear with caution.

In that akward stage inbetween seasons most designers prefer to throw a small show or viewing before the Fall (pre-fall collection) and Spring shows (Resort collection). These shows are usually allot more scaled back (with the exception of Chanel's tacky extravaganzas) and meant to either fill racks at Barneys and keep clients interested or to give a peek of their vision for the upcoming season. Seeing as though Fall 2010 fashion week(s) is just around the corner it was time for the pre-fall shows. Sadly, some of my favorite avante-garde designers like Comme and Rodarte do not show in the inbetween due to their lengthy craftsmanship. Otherwise, I usually do not respond well to these shows, seeing as though designers find it a time to be either boring and safe or really tacky and vegas-y. Although, this time around it was a little different. I chose these five collections as my favorite because all five designers have different views and techniques that are all equally beautiful in my opinion. Balenciaga, Techy and futuristic. Proenza, cool and urban. Calvin, stark and extremely minimalist. Missoni, warm and European. And Lanvin, the usual choice for an urban goddess. All five still managing to have a pure vision of the fashion future.

Here are my top 5 pre-fall collections with brief overview.

Missoni

For their pre-fall collection Missoni went for that knockout signature that has kept them at the top season after season. Layers and layers of beautiful ribbed knits and wool coats cocooned model's bodies as their skinny limbs were topped with beautiful caps and knitted tights. The most delicious part of the collection was the palette of beautiful honey, dark green and rainy greys. These clothes embody the soul warmth that one needs to last the dark days of the winter . To no doubt be seen on the most stylish and tasteful women come fall.

Lanvin

Alber Elbaz, master of desire, has done it again. All of his creations are for that urban goddess, whether she be office savvy or stomping ground to a club downtown. Every woman, no matter who, is on their knees for the perfect Lanvin piece of their liking. This collection was no exception, based around a parisian woman dressed in all leopard. The girl wearing these clothes walks around in cafes and bars flirting and smoking with the see and be seen. There is no doubt these pieces will be fluent with the same in the American fashion scene. Every Lanvin girl will find a way in their checkbooks to bring one of these lovely pieces into their wardrobe next fall, and no doubt for the rest of their lives.

Calvin Klein

I chose this collection purely because of it's strict german minimalist vibe. It resembles everything old Jil Sander was. The silhouette is not fed up with accessories but still is striking without them. Silhouettes were pure black suits and light coral dresses to cocoon cahmere wool coats and light gauze gowns. Heavenly and pure. With Calvin it is always how it should be; quality, never quantity.

Proenza Schouler

This collection is fabulous, cool, and very young without looking gaudy, as Jack and Lorenzo always somehow manage to achieve. It is always many references and inspirations for these kids, yet the result is never all over the place. But exactly the opposite. Textiles were more beautiful then they ever were and silhouettes were extremely cool. It could come off almost preppy if was not for the models nonchalent side bang and fierce expression that made it slightly hipster. collars were tights, blazers hung loosely over skirts and dresses were belted and textured. To no doubt be seen all over the big city, except this time maybe not just in a smokey night club. So refreshing.

Balenciaga

Balenciaga's showing was full of color and the usual fabulous 'tear the clothes off the model and run' type of ensembles. The colors were bold and fresh: green, red and neon yellow. Pieces ranged anywhere from psychedelic embelished sweaters and linear jackets to draped harem half skinny jeans and elegant dresses. Models walked out with beautiful wooden glass footwear, their long legs covered with graphic neon opaque tights, to be sold next fall for a very economy friendly un-Balenciaga $100 price-tag. Get ready, you might have to bitch slap Anna Wintour to get a hand on your favorite Balenciaga treasure.

Miss Stella McCartney

Stella McCartney, Daughter of Sir Paul, is one of those designers that fashion turns to for that positive, fresh, cool vibe that is lost through weeks of grueling fashion shows. From this Central Saint Martin's grad, flamboyance is the key word. Color, vibe, beauty, and plenty of Beatle's energy always following. She is the designer woman turn to if they want to look fabulous, fun, and fresh while staying eco-friendly while doing so (Stella uses no fur nor leather in her collection). Although these clothes may not be cutting edge, it is kind of refreshing to see a designer not trying to make some incognito statement about politics or the current economic situation. If there is one thing fashion is good for, it is getting lost in the moment and remembering why you love clothes in the first place.

This collection, set to a colorful backdrop of Paris with bold words spelling out 'yes', was about bold beauty and nostalgia. Making woman feel happy again, which seems rather easy if they are wearing the tan shirt dresses, nude blazers, and bold frilly pleats that strutted with a smile down this Paris runway. The palette was easy and beachy, sandy neutrals, rich blues, and latin corals . The models strutted out rather light on accessories except for crepe sandals on their feet, making the show seem effortless. Front row socialistas and cold editors broke a rare smile when the finale of bold prints, seemed ruffles and impossibly easy frocks cascaded down the runway worn by energetic and beautiful models smiling and glowing with excitement. This show was one that practically paved out what confident women everywhere will be wearing next summer. This one reminded us why it is her that keeps us smiling, and humming to the Beatles' classics, season after season. Women everywhere will once again be saying, 'yes.'

Recently, in the cold climate, i have been more than longing for the faraway summer or just for someplace warm where i can dance in the street and enjoy the sun. When in this tropical climate, it would be more than preferable to wear a piece from one of my favorite collections. The recent Proenza collection said all things summer; cool, laid-back fun with tons of colors and no boundaries. When I finally came across the collection at Barney's, my shrill scream and far jump to grasp the Proenza rack caused horrified expression on several shoppers and employees to my enjoyment.

The piece I walked away with was an early spring long-sleeve shirt, hand-dyed in an electric blue made from a soft light cotton. The tie-dye detail in the shirt was lovely and one of a kind, very fresh and very cool. When the piece was on you could tell it was constructed beautifully, it hung in a way that fit but was still draped and loose. The color was very pretty and It was so precious to feel like part of the cool crew that would no doubt be jet-setting it as of summer. I was craving this shirt, but the investment price tag said otherwise. For now, I decided against this hope for sane reasons. When spending hundreds of dollars, of one's own own money, on a shirt you must be positive to wear it often in every season. Not running the risk of looking like a nostalgic hippy come next fall when this pretty piece would be forced under black wool through seven months of snow. Putting the shirt back on the rack caused glare from sales people, like they must throw it out now that i tried it on. I walked away confidently, still feeling the shirts cool glow in my mind and under my jacket. I will wear this baby in my dreams.

Balenciaga~Thinking of the future

Nicholas Ghesquiere

Balenciaga is a label that was turned, by it's designer Nicholas Ghesquiere, into a full-thriving fashion house at the peek of the fashion division. Each and every season, for years, Balenciaga takes a new turn and unfolds a new layer of fashion that is coutlessly studied by other designers. Nicholas is a cutting- edge fashion designer who's work makes the fashion industry plan their whole year around a seven minute show held twice annually in Paris. The looks within that show guaranteed to be featured on every celebrity and in every editorial for the next six months.

This season was a full turn from last season, Fall's parisian madame was turned into an edgy street girl for the summer. His techy urban collection was a turn of the era, his fabrics were undoubtedly an incredible highlight. What could seem like a gray denim was actually a hand-engineered leather foam, or even a hand loomed hemp weave was lazer cut to be as precise as possible. The Actual show progressed from a street edge to more of a put-together urban. The beginning was an exploration of leather hoodies, neon pops, and textured pants that progressed onto fabulous lazer cut skirts, layered leather dresses cut over sheer chiffon, and porcupine-like skirts that change colors as the girl struts confidently by. His accessories were brilliant, the shoes, made out of a combination of woven fabric and 'play-dough'-like melted leather, cuffed the ankle and lower calf in a warrior stance. And the shadowy makeup with an electric flash of neon in the eye corner was beautiful. The components of this collection are elements that could only be executed by a fashion house like this, but are sure to pop up in collections and stores of many others. Although Balenciaga comes with a steep price-tag these clothes are sure to be seen in pieces all around the city or completely put together on some full throttle girl stepping out. Nicholas Ghesquiere is now, and has been for a while, a renowned fashion god whose creativity cannot even be touched by his competitors. Balenciaga is at the forefront of the industry for fashion and styling because of his true references that are never from an outside source, but always from the soul being of where fashion is going in the new decade. Welcome to the future.

I'm writing about this collection because it is simply magical. Rei Kawakubo, head designer for Comme, was mystical this season. She is a dreamer, a thinker, and an incredible mind. Her designs and creations are moving and though-provoking, often left unfinished and questioning. Hems are left unsewn, holes are patched in garments, pieces of fabric drag behind, and garments fall akwardly across the body. It is all part of the illusion. Rei Kawakubo wants you to think, she rarely ever explains what or why, and is rarely ever out or in interviews. It is through her work that she explains herself, her feeling and her emotion. Her shows are commonly held in odd areas, hard to get to and perhaps dirty and unkept. The show's setup being oddly numbered metal chairs and barely any welcoming beverages or gifts. The welcome comes through an 8 minute show held twice annually. Rei is unlike any designer, she is an artist. One of the most interesting to ever live. Comme des Garcons, meaning 'like boys' in french, is known as an unseen force behind the industry. Barely anybody outside of the fashion crowd knows of her, even though their closets are perhaps formed from her ideas.

Through the fall 2009 collection Rei was thinking of protection and comfort. The theme was 'wonderland'. Interpret what you will with this, people see many things. The collection overall was meant as a charm of warmth and nostalgia, dreams and memories. The garments themselves were complex as usual; olive coats sewn over snug blanket wraps, jackets and skirts layered with tranparent nude tulle, and garments stitched with trompe l'oeil illusion of pockets or underlayers. Pink-haired models came out and, with a layer of gauze stiched with a sparkly kiss across their faces, stomped around in mocassins painted with toes. The entire collection was based around illusions, the nude tulle giving the effect of a melted garment. It surely was a wonderland at first sight, a beautiful carnival or a whimsical dream. Who knows with Rei Kawakubo. As usual, she did not make an appearance at the end of the show. Choosing, however, to stay backstage as industry professionals and fashionistas alike oohed, awed, and questioned what they had just seen... a new fashion era in the making.

Christopher Kane Spring 2010~disturbed beauty

This collection was so distraught and very odd, but nevertheless mesmerizing and beautiful as always. Christopher Kane, who is both London fashion darling and designer to the hip and elite, meant something different this season. Backstage Kane said his collection was inspired by a documentary he saw about the Jonestown mass suicides in 1978, as well as looking at aspects of the film 'Lolita'. The collection reminded me of the odd, traditional families that inhabited middle America through the 50's (or the ones that went awry). The show's silhouettes brought checkered and plaid dresses with cascading print, odd suiting, perfectly layered sweaters and sheer fabrics, and little girl embroidery. Kane's lineup would look otherwise quite sweet if it wasn't for the slashes, odd tailoring, and unbearable pureness. It was that undertone of ruined innocence that made this collection equally as edgy as it is lovely.

~Jil Sander Spring 2010~ Uncovered

Raf Simons, who has been head of this minimalist brand for a few years, is taking Jil to new territory. I respect Raf Simons very much, for in the past few seasons Raf has been toying with changing the Jil Sander woman as the fashion industry becomes more modern and more demanding. To much glory, Raf Simons has taken Jil Sander into more conceptual boundaries then that of the clean robot silhouettes Jil Sander has always been known for. What is so genius about Raf is that his designs are always pure but never heavy and never over-accessorized. This season Raf brought sex to the Jil Sander woman in a way never before seen. His inspirations were land artists and the 1970's film Zabriskie Point (screens throughout the show even showed a 'Death Valley' sex scene from the film). This season the collection was more natural, organic and frayed (literally). Earth and a new aspect of nature were sure inspirations for the deconstructive aspects to the collections. The pieces were very creative and defined, almost as if he was literally 'taking apart' Jil Sander. The looks consisted of classic Jil Sander silhouettes that were ripped, torn and frayed at the edges or perhaps akwardly draped. Trench-like skirts gave ease and cool to this refined girl. Some skirts and dresses even had pieces of torn or 'peeling' fabrics clinging off the garment, inspired by deconstructed houses. Thin and transparent knits layered over pieces giving them a dreamy illusion, and earth tone metallic dresses and STUNNING accessories grasped the vision together. The shoes were vision of their own, almost unable to describe. Whatever Raf Simons was thinking this season, he went somewhere new, somewhere undeniably disturbing and beautiful. This collection was undoubtedly uncovering something new, but beneath each piece was still the classic Jil Sander shining through, and that will always be relevant. Let's dance in the sunshine in Jil Sander, never mind the six inch heels.

For the past several years chain stores such as Target, the Gap, and H&M have joined with high end designers to form a collaboration. This is done to draw a wider audience to these designers and to send the message that style doesn't have to cost designer prices. Such designer collaboration in the past have been; Comme des Garcons and Karl Lagerfeld for H&M and Proenza Schouler and Luella Bartley for Target. These partnerships are smart seeing as though, especially with H&M, these clothes fly off shelves within minutes from vicious sleep-deprived men and woman kicking and screaming to get dibs on cheap designer goodies.

The most current, and one of the most talked about, designer collaborations recently is Rodarte for Target. A collaboration like this is very challenging and very intriguing. Many wondered how Kate and Laura Mulleavy, the sisters behind Rodarte, would turn their hand-made creations (pictured above) into Target. The result, was whimsical tulle and leopard dresses with bows galore, lace everything, and even a fabulous jean jacket. The prices for Rodarte for target range from $9 for tights to around $50 for a dress. This is a lot more practical than the sisters main-line that retails for $10,000 +. Although the line's construction and quality is less than that of Rodarte's, the clothes are fun, cool, whimsical, and totally fabulous for that girl that loves fashion but can't drop the cash for it. This collection is so effortlessly cool, I can't help but crave every inch of it. Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCullough of Proenza are two crazy kids that know who they are and who their dressing. Designers have been trying to nail this laid-back cool for a while now in different forms (Alex Wang, Helmut Lang) but never like this. The designers were thinking about surfing and skating, laid back kids, cool in their own way. The result being effortless skirts, looking like a jacket tied around the waist, stunning neon tie dye, beautiful aquarium dresses and cool accessories galore. The guys said they were just designing for, 'the girls they love to hang out with.'.... So simple, so easy, and so summer.

Some of the girls even had streeks of faded die in their hair, something I might try later on..... This collection makes me wish it were summer so I could wear tie dye and die my hair and dance on the beach, but no. It's winter. So, I have to wear black and scarves? not anymore. Lanvin Spring 2010~Paris

Alber Elbaz is a complete genius and a true artist. I love him and his style, and I am in awe of his ability to bring sleepy editors to full perspective when his shows begin. This season Alber did for Lanvin what he has done in the past few seasons, flowey, drapey, airy, unbelievably beautiful pieces . But, like each re-invention of his, it was different. He was thinking about his trips to South America and what he saw in the fashion there, the difference between the old age of fashion and the new. What happened to the times when woman were head to toe elegant, and took the time to be? The answer?... twisty dresses in corals, nude quilted coats, sparkly jumpsuit that were draped effortlessly, and the most miraculous jewelry I have seen recently. All of his pieces begging to be put in editorials, or onto a cool girl that knows who she is and where she's going. I encourage you to look up the full collection, or watch the show on youtube.

Whenever there is a Lanvin show a new energy is awakened in the fashion community and you can feel the excitement of where fashion once was, the love, the style, the color, and the beauty. Alber Elbaz is a true magician and watching his shows makes me drop what I'm doing and watch with undivided attention. I can't wait for summer. Kudos, darling.
